FAQ

How is the cost calculated?

Energy added to the battery = battery size × (target % − start %). Because some energy is lost as heat, the energy drawn from the wall is that number divided by charging efficiency. Cost = wall energy × your rate.

Why doesn't a bigger charger always charge faster?

Your car's onboard charger limits AC charging. The effective rate is the lower of the charger's power and the vehicle's onboard max. A 19.2 kW charger on an 11 kW car charges at 11 kW.

Where do the state rates come from?

Average residential prices from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Your actual rate depends on your utility and plan, so enter it from your bill for the best estimate.

Should I use a time-of-use rate?

Many utilities offer cheaper overnight rates for EV owners. Enter it in the off-peak field and tick the box to compare.

Is the time estimate exact?

No. Charging slows near 100% and in cold weather, so real sessions can run a bit longer.
